Dr Wendy Ross was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Growing up by the ocean and learning to swim in the sea at an early age, she later started boogy boarding, windsurfing and learned to scuba dive. She loves most outdoor sports and anything related to water! In 2017 this love led her to the sport of freediving, which has quickly become her new passion.
She was deeply affected by her father's death when she was 18 and desperately wanted to become a cancer doctor. After many interesting diversions, including travelling the world, modelling in Paris, being a national level synchronised swimmer, learning to fly a plane and getting a degree in Economics while she was travelling, she finally enrolled in her medical degree at Flinders University in South Australia and, after graduation, started working in one of the state's busiest Emergency Rooms. Looking for more adventure, she moved to beautiful British Columbia, Canada with her daughter in 2007. After years of working in Emergency rooms around the province and in the NorthWest Territories, and combining this with working in a busy chemotherapy clinic, she became the Lead Physician of the cancer clinic in Penticton, BC. Her energy has become strongly focused by her experiences both in the Emergency Department and the chemotherapy clinic, where it became depressingly evident that so many of the conditions being treated were preventable in a large part, by better nutrition and lifestyle. After much research, she became convinced of the benefits of a Whole Food Plant Based Diet and slowly transformed her diet from meat-eating, cheese-loving omnivore to WFPB! #VeganNotMartian. After observing hundreds of patients battling with the effects of prolonged stress, and experiencing the same, first hand, Dr Ross is currently working on her first book dealing with burnout. |
